We all know that only those with healthy hair as a base can achieve the best styles, and there are so many ways to determine a healthy head of hair that’s strong, supple and soft over one that’s dry and brittle. Long gone are the days when a proper hair care regime was a luxury reserved for women! The upkeep of your hair is now more important than ever to your overall look and shouldn’t be underestimated. That’s exactly why we’ve written a brief guide on how to achieve and maintain healthy and lustrous locks that are silky, shiny and all-round sexy. Here are Black Label’s top tips for healthy hair….
Shampoo & Conditioner
Massage Your Scalp
When you’re rubbing the shampoo and conditioner in (especially conditioner) take time to properly massage it into your hair and scalp. Massaging the scalp in small circular movements will help with blood flow at the root and promote growth.
Even if you’re in the process of growing your hair out, or want to keep it long, going for regular trims is essential. Dead ends to your hair are, frankly, unsightly and scruffy, so you should aim to get these snipped every 4 to 6 weeks….although 8 weeks wouldn’t be the end of the world if you’re seriously reluctant!
Food & Drink
Diet can have a lot to do with the look and feel of your hair. If your mop is looking a bit lifeless and underwhelming, it could be to do with that extra takeaway you had at the weekend (or the several drinks that preceded it!). With this in mind, you should keep your body replenished and hydrated, drinking plenty of water and eating foods that are complimentary to the condition of your hair. Eating proteins and healthy fats, such as those found in oily fish like salmon or mackerel will keep your hair growth stimulated by assisting the reparation of cells. As an added benefit, your skin will thank you too!
Over styling your hair is a big factor in making it dry, brittle and lank. We understand the need to give it the odd blow-dry to get it perfectly coiffed, but keeping it to a minimum is always recommended.
Quality Styling Products
One of the most important things to consider is the fact that you get what you pay for. Using cheap, bargain products, you’re probably going to get a cheap looking style. Invest properly in your hair care, including your styling products. Why go to all the trouble of getting your mane in check, just to let it (and yourself) down at the final stage? In our opinion, having the right styling products for your hair is the final piece of the puzzle and is just as important as keeping it healthy. Knowing your hair type will help you determine whether you’re best opting for a paste, clay or pomade, but whatever you opt for, make sure it’s a worthwhile, quality product.
